Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the Hotel


Upon arrival to the new Quito airport you will have a transfer to the Hotel.

Day 2: Machachi and the Avenue of the Volcanoes


At 8:30 AM your driver will meet you at the hotel to take you Machachi to Hacienda Umbria located along the avenue of the volcanoes, south of Quito.

Lunch will be served at Hacienda Umbria. Cooking class with the owner.

The hacienda is a paradise located in the magnificent setting of the Ecuadorian Andes, a place where you can disconnect from reality and rediscover the authentic pleasures of life. From the break of dawn, the impressive view of the local snow-capped peaks (Corazón, Rumiñahui, Cotopaxi and Ilinizas) invites you to enjoy your natural surroundings in their purest form through activities such as riding on the hacienda’s wonderful Andalucian horses, mountain biking and hiking through the local native forests and trails where a variety of orchids can be spotted. The farm offers gourmet food and excellent wines.


After lunch you will drive to La Alegria Farm where you will spend the night.

Dinner will be served at La Alegria.

Day 3.  Full day in La Alegria Farm or drive to Cotopaxi National Park


After a delicious breakfast you can enjoy a horseback ride at the Farm or drive in the morning to Cotopaxi National Park, located only 30 minutes from La Alegria.

The Cotopaxi National Park is an ecological sanctuary of 36,000 hectares (88,920 acres) surrounding the highest active volcano in the world, especially attractive for nature lovers, with the treeless vegetation of the Andean moorlands or páramo.  You may see herds of llamas, wild horses, and perhaps deer, rabbits, frogs and lizards.  Bird life includes the Andean gull, ducks, and several species of hummingbirds and with some luck, the condor.  Look directly up the magnificent mountain, rising 6,005 meters (19,700 feet).


PM. Return back to the farm for lunch and to relax.

Day 4.  Drive due North to Imbabura Province.


Leave La Alegria Farm at 9:00 AM in direction due North.  You will follow the Panamerican Highway to Cayambe, where you will visit a Rose Plantation followed by lunch in the Compania Farm.


This antique hacienda offers history, fresh air, scenery, and excellent food. La Compañía once belonged to the Jesuit order. The house and chapel have been in the hands of the Jarrín family for over 100 years. The owners welcome you to enjoy typical Ecuadorian cuisine and exotic fruits and juices for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or tea. Lunch is then followed by a visit to the rose plantation.  A guide will  show you every detail about rose production.


In the afternoon continue due north to Hacienda Cusin, located on the foothills of Imbabura Volcano, near San Pablo Lake.

Day 5. Otavalo Market and back roads


The morning is free for you to enjoy the area.  

At 10:00 AM you will drive due west towards Otavalo city, crossing rolling hills and the famous huasipungos (the places where the indigenous people have their houses and crops).


Imbabura province is known for the excellent craftsman. Each village in the area produces different types of things, such as wall hangings, shalls, wool jumpers and cardigans, wood carvings, leather goods, etc. 


In Otavalo you will be able to visit the main square of the city where the local indigenous people are selling their handy crafts.  It is great for culture and photography.  You will find different type crafts, from wool and Alpaca sweaters, to paintings, wall hangings and hammocks.  

The Otavaleños are hardworking people that were born with the gift of being excellent artisans. 


Along the back roads and foothills of Imbabura volcano you will be able to observe small villages of Agato, Peguche and Iluman, where you will stop to get to know the culture and its people.


Saturday is market day, so you will have 3 to 4 hours to enjoy the fair and then continue for lunch in Pinsaqui Farm.


In the afternoon you will have time to visit Cotacachi village known for its excellent leather goods.  Later return to Cusin to rest.

Day 6. Equator Monument and return to Quito


In the morning enjoy the beautiful gardens of Cusin, depart at 10:00 in order to have enough time to stop at the Equator Monument in Cayambe followed by lunch in the Café de la Vaca Restaurant.


PM. Return back to Quito.

Day 7.  Colonial Quito


At 8:30 AM you will start a tour of Colonial Quito.


Due to the beauty and history of colonial Quito, the main emphasis is given to the old city. Normally the visit begins with a quick and general view of some residential neighborhoods in modern Quito and then it continues to central Quito.


The tour normally starts in the Parliament Building, where the stone mural records some important features of our Ecuador’s history.  Afterwards you will continue to downtown and visit the colonial temples and monasteries of this urban jewel, designated by UNESCO a World Heritage Site. The Independence square, flanked by the Cathedral, the Presidential Palace, the Municipal Building and the Archbishop’s Palace.  Late you will continue by foot to La Compañia de Jesus and the church of San Francisco, one the of great religious buildings of the New World; its impressive façade and atrium lead to its gilt interior a Baroque influenced by Moorish style, with the winged Virgin of Quito at its main altar.


At approximately 1:30 PM you will have lunch in Octava de Corpus.


PM. Visit Olga Fisch Gallery and its archeology collection.  Free the rest of the afternoon for shopping and relaxing.

Dinner on your own.


Day 8. Return back home


You have a transfer to the International Airport.
